With further deepening of commercial high resolution RS satellite’s application in various industries, how can the satellite data sources satisfy daily-increasing demands of application has become a problem to be resolved urgently. High resolution radar RS satellite embodies such characteristics as all-wheather and whole-day earth observation, which attracts much attention in recent years. And some high resolution radar satellites have been launched in succession.
As a golden sponsor of ISPRS 2008, EastDawn stands again at the top position in radar RS satellite field. Its subsidiary, Beijing Earth Observation Inc. (BEO), has constructed cooperative partnership with Italian e-GEOS corporation. BEO introduced COSMO-SkyMed radar satellite into China and is solely responsible for its marketing and promotion in China. BEO has convened the release conference of COSMO-SkyMed SAR data on November 21st, 2007 in Beijing. On the release conference, Italian Radar experts from e-GEOS corporation, Mr. Luca, presented COSMO-SkyMed radar system, revisit analysis and sample images analysis etc; Mr. Livio presented applications of COSMO-SkyMed data in agriculture, forestry, land, ocean and disaster fields. With IKONOS and IRS-P5 high resolution optical satellites, plus COSMO-SkyMed radar satellites, BEO will be able to provide more consummate and adaptable application solution for customers in diverse industries in near future.
Mr. Li Jiping, general manager of BEO, thought that the radar satellite with rapid response ability was going to enter a more popular period in all kinds of applications. He said that BEO would like to share , cooperate and do deeper research together with friends from various industries for the purpose of pushing forward application of SAR technology in China, providing effective tools for scientific research, production and management, broadening vision, bringing creative thinking and benefiting our society.
The first high resolution radar satellite COSMO-SkyMed-1 co-developed by Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Italian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has been successfully launched on June 8th, 2007. COSMO-SkyMed is a all-weather earth observation constellation composed by 4 radar satellites. It can collect images at 1 meter resolution and 10km swath. It also has radar interferometry mapping ability. As the first global radar satellite constellation of 1 meter resolution and with characteristics including all weather earth observation and short revisit time etc, COSMO-SkyMed system will carve out a new way for exploration of relevant fields including land resource and environment monitoring, disaster monitoring, maritime affairs management and scientific application etc.
